Let’s talk about…………..
Intestinal parasites….not the first topic around the dinner table but unfortunately it is a very real part of our pets’ lives. Parasites negatively affect the health of your pet and, if left untreated, have the potential to be fatal. Parasites live in the intestinal tract and rob your pet of vital nutrients and have the ability to move to other organs of your dog’s body if left unchecked. Regular deworming will ensure your pet will stay healthy and parasite free.
We use Safe Guard (fenbendazole) for several reasons. It is a broad spectrum wormer, ridding your dog’s system of a variety of parasites. It is also very cost effective, which is a plus for pet owners. You should weigh your pet to make sure you are giving the correct dose.
Each deworming requires 3 daily treatments. You can pick this wormer up on Amazon.
Your pet’s deworming schedule will vary depending on where you live and the activity of your dog. Your puppy will come to you from Graber Ranch Dachshunds already on a regular deworming schedule. After the initial visit with your veterinarian, you should continue a deworming schedule until 6 months of age. After 6 months, treatment twice a year is sufficient.
If your puppy is showing any signs of sickness, do not deworm until they have been examined by your veterinarian. Since it is possible for humans to contract parasites from our pets, it is imperative to maintain good personal hygiene and daily clean-up of stools is advisable to prevent reinfestation.
